Rise strives to use the power of physical activity and sport to tackle many of the big issues that are facing our communities today. Both physical activity and sport can deliver an amazing, positive impact on both individuals and communities. In their region, this translates to using movement to tackle issues as varied as raising the aspirations of children living in poverty, to supporting the mental health of men at risk of suicide; both are issues that have rates in the region that are sadly far worse than the UK average. By collaborating with a wide variety of partners on how sport, physical activity, or sometimes just moving more, can be introduced into their work, they can tackle such issues and inequalities across the region and create a higher quality of life for those who need it the most.
Given the significant health, social and economic inequalities that many people living in the region face, funding through the UFoundation would enable us to invest capacity into those many places and communities who need it the most, but we currently don’t have the resources to reach. Having the resources to work at a place-based level - which may be a whole town, a neighbourhood, or even just a few streets - allows a real focus on asset-based community development. By listening and understanding the issues that really matter to the local community, we can support them in sustainable, community-driven development.
